{"id":434,"date":"2014-05-20T17:31:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T08:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mdri-news\/?p=434"},"modified":"2014-05-20T17:31:38","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T08:01:38","slug":"catalyst-research-grant-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mdri-news\/2014\/05\/20\/catalyst-research-grant-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Catalyst Research Grant update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mdri-news\/files\/2014\/05\/Egon_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mdri-news\/files\/2014\/05\/Egon_small-239x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mdri-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2014\/05\/Egon_small-239x300.jpg 239w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mdri-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2014\/05\/Egon_small.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><\/a>In December 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/people\/egon.perilli\">Dr Egon Perilli<\/a> (pictured), School of Computer Science Engineering and Mathematics, Medical Device Research Institute, Flinders University, was awarded a Catalyst Research Grant by the SA Government, for his project seeking to develop innovative methods of detecting early onset of knee osteoarthritis, to prolong the life of the affected joint. <\/p>\n<p>This SA-collaborative project between Flinders University (Dr Egon Perilli), University of South Australia (Dr Dominic Thewlis) and the Flinders Medical Centre and Repatriation General Hospital (A\/Prof Graham Mercer), Adelaide, strengthens the research capability available to the sector, in the emerging area of biomedical engineering and biomechanics.<\/p>\n<p>The data on 3D-micro-architectural bone changes provided by Dr Egon Perilli and in vivo gait analysis provided by Dr Dominic Thewlis will provide a novel combination of complementary information in this disabling pathology, by linking knee biomechanics and bone microarchitecture using state of the art 3D characterisation techniques such as micro-computed tomography and motion capture systems.
