Get to know your College: Candice Liddy-Stokes

What is your role and what does your work focus on?

  • Role: Program Manager
  • Work focus: To assist the Director of Indigenous Health Leadership to progress the Rural and Remote Health (RRH) strategy to improve Indigenous Health by contributing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander knowledge to inform culturally respectful decision making withing the Discipline, College and University.

Where did you work before joining CMPH?

Prior to commencing work at CMPH, I worked as a Physiotherapist at the Palmerston Regional Hospital in the Rehabilitation department. I’ve worked as a Physiotherapist in a variety of fields including in the acute hospital setting, community health, remote service delivery, with sporting teams and in private practice.

What journey brought you to this point in your career?

I’ve worked as a clinician since graduating from a Bachelor of Physiotherapy through Melbourne University in 2012 and this year I decided to undertake further study by enrolling in a Master of Public Health. I saw the Program Manager role at CMPH as an exciting opportunity to develop my skills in non-clinical areas. I hope to bring to this role a different perspective extending from my experience working in the health sector throughout the NT over the past 10 years.

What is something you love most about your work?

I have always found working in the health sector rewarding through helping people during vulnerable stages in their life. In my current position at CMPH I love seeing the potential in projects that will improve health outcomes for communities on a larger scale and the innovative approach Flinders researchers take to achieve these outcomes. As a local Aboriginal woman, I love that I have the opportunity to be involved in projects that will influence our community and future generations in the NT.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Jeez, well I’ve had to ask my colleagues this to make sure it’s not made up haha.

  • Happy/smiley
  • Efficient
  • Honest

How do you like to relax or spend your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my family, going camping and playing sport.
