In her final year of studying a Bachelor of Paramedicine at Flinders University, Olivia has always had a passion for making a positive difference in people’s lives. She has wanted to be a paramedic for as long as she can remember, in order to provide quality care to those in vulnerable situations.

Drawn to the field for its exciting and unpredictable nature, she commenced a Bachelor of Health Sciences before transferring to her desired degree.

Learning Experience and Practical Placements

Olivia’s learning experience at Flinders has been exceptional. The program’s resources and supportive tutors have allowed her to flourish in her studies.

“Within this degree, we have access to new facilities, including space and a range of specialised equipment to practice our clinical skills, which allows for an acceleration of learning. The ongoing availability of assistance and resources, along with tutors from the profession are some of the excellent key features of the Paramedicine Degree here at Flinders.”

The opportunity to apply her skills during placements with the South Australian Ambulance Service has been invaluable. It has provided her with real-world experience, enhancing her clinical skills, communication techniques, and overall growth as a Paramedicine student.

“…myself, along with all the students within the degree can be involved within real situations in which members of the community require medical attention. This opportunity is immensely exciting, and allows a vast opportunity for development. On these placements, we utilise the skills we develop within the university setting, as well as take what we have learnt on placement, and apply that to our studies.”

Future Career Plans

After completing her studies, Olivia aims to become a Paramedic, either within South Australia or interstate. She also plans to pursue a postgraduate degree to broaden her scope of practice.
