The NT Regional Training Hub (NT RTH) hosted the 2024 NT Medical Career Expo in Darwin at the Flinders Casuarina Campus in May 2024. This informative networking event catered to NT medical students and pre-vocational doctors. It attracted 102 registrants and featured 25 prominent exhibitor organisations representing various medical specialist training colleges, health service departments, and local training organisations.

Attendees enjoyed engaging and practical activities such as cannulation, resuscitation simulations, dissections, eye checks, and intubation demonstrations. Local comedian Amy Hetherington, serving as the MC, kept the atmosphere lively, while Larrakia elder Dr. Uncle Richie Fejo delivered a heartfelt Welcome to Country to set the tone for the evening.

Dr Penny Stewart, NT RTH Medical Director, described the event as ‘a great night outside amongst the palm trees’, emphasising the enriching blend of clinical demonstrations and interactive booths showcasing diverse medical career pathways. “The annual expo is a unique opportunity for attendees to mingle and to exchange insights.”

Alicia Kuroda-Metin, Flinders Northern Territory Medical Program student, and recipient of the NT RTH City Cave Wellness gift certificate draw prize, echoed the sentiment of many attendees, describing the expo as ‘brilliant and incredibly fun, while informative and engaging’. “I really valued the invaluable opportunity to converse with seasoned professionals about their career journeys and gain firsthand insights into their daily work.”

The 2024 NT Medical Career Expo in addition to being an educational event, was a catalyst for inspiration and exploration, leaving attendees enriched and motivated on their medical career paths.
