
The NT Regional Training Hub (NT RTH) in collaboration with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET) recently hosted highly successful Point of Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) workshops in Katherine, NT. The event drew enthusiastic participation from both doctors and acute care nurses. These workshops provided an invaluable opportunity to develop and refine ultrasound skills under the guidance of experienced emergency physicians and a sonographer.
Workshop Highlights & Participation
The workshops reached full capacity, demonstrating the strong demand for high-quality ultrasound training in the region:
- Thursday, 6 March: 19 doctors attended the two workshops focusing on eFAST (Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma) and ultrasound-guided procedures & soft tissue.
- Friday, 7 March: 19 acute care nurses participated in sessions covering vascular access and bladder assessment.

The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with participants appreciating the accessibility and quality of training:

Why These Workshops Matter
These workshops not only enhanced clinical skills but also empowered healthcare professionals in Katherine to deliver improved patient care using ultrasound diagnostics. The hands-on approach, led by Dr Nadi Pandithage ensured participants walked away with practical knowledge they could immediately apply in their work.
Looking Ahead
The success of these PoCUS workshops highlights the need for continued medical education and training opportunities in regional areas. With such enthusiastic participation and excellent feedback, NT RTH aims to bring more sessions to Katherine in the future.
