On 3 June 2025, the foyer of Menzies School of Health Research, Royal Darwin Hospital came alive with energy, curiosity, and community spirit as over 100 participants gathered for the 2025 NT Medical Career Expo. The event, hosted by the NT Regional Training Hub, once again brought together medical students, junior doctors, specialist colleges, health service departments, and support organisations to showcase the unique and rewarding medical training pathways available across the Northern Territory.
Commencing with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Dr Uncle Richie Fejo, the Expo’s opening remarks were shared by the event’s MCs Dr Uncle Richie Fejo and Melba Ridd, setting a welcoming, fun and inclusive tone for the evening. From there, attendees engaged in hands-on clinical activities such as suturing, cannulation, point-of-care ultrasound, and crash cart simulations. Organisations like CareFlight, GP colleges, and local physician, pathology and psychiatry teams offered immersive and interactive demonstrations, bringing medical learning to life.
This year saw 25 organisations participating including representation from Alice Springs Hospital. High exhibitor turnout translated to rich networking opportunities and a supportive environment for students and doctors to explore career possibilities and to connect with professionals from a range of disciplines.
One medical student commented that ‘The NT is such an amazing place with so many opportunities which provides such wide exposure’. Another shared that attending the Expo helped him in his motivation to complete his studies. Of the exhibitors that completed the post event survey, 100% agreed that they would recommend this event to their colleagues.
Another highlight of the evening was the AMA NT Medical Program Award presentation. This annual award recognises a Year 2 NT Medical Program student who exemplifies academic growth, initiative, and leadership. Congratulations to Rochelle Cabry, the 2025 recipient, whose dedication to medical excellence honours the legacy of Dr David Meadows.
The NT Medical Career Expo continues to be a vital event that not only promotes pathways into rural and remote medicine but also highlights the value of training and working in the Territory. The NT Regional Training Hub extends its sincere thanks to all sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees for making this year’s event a success.
