Reynal Adrien, an international student from Sri Lanka, is now in the third year of his <\/span><\/b>Doctor of Medicine (MD) program<\/span><\/b><\/a> at Flinders University. His journey began with the <\/span><\/b>Bachelor of Clinical Sciences<\/span><\/b><\/a>, where he built a strong foundation in <\/span><\/b>medical science<\/span><\/b><\/a> and critical thinking. Reflecting on his studies, Reynal likens medicine to a marathon rather than a race, emphasising the importance of pacing, consistency, and embracing the process along the way.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Reynal\u2019s passion for medicine began early, inspired by his curiosity about the human body and personal experiences, including his grandmother\u2019s cancer battle and his own recovery from dengue fever. These moments highlighted for him the need for empathy in healthcare.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn a world where circumstances can bring out the worst in a person, I wanted to pursue a profession that demands me to be the best version of myself every single day.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn an evolving world, it takes more than being academically gifted to be a good doctor. Being a good doctor to me is being able to understand the intricacies of a problem, simplify and explain it in a way that can be understood, and most importantly have a relentless perseverance to achieve the best outcome for another.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n His decision to study at Flinders over other MD courses was based on the supportive environment he encountered during the admissions process, which made a lasting impression. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe fact that the medical interview empowered the passion in me, was a testament to the safe environment Flinders University creates to bring out the best in an individual. This interaction with the University explored my core values and tried to understand me as a person, instead of a sheet of qualifications.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0This, coupled with Flinders\u2019 commitment to its \u201cFearless\u201d ethos, reassured him he was making the right choice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWith the nerve-wracking move of shifting continents solely in pursuit of a better quality of education, and investing in a career that demands excellence day in and day out, the University slogan of being Fearless spoke directly to me.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Though the journey has been challenging, Reynal sees it as a steady climb, with each step making the next more achievable. He values the support of Flinders\u2019 staff and finds placements essential for turning theory into practice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHaving studied here for now four years, the only thing better than the invaluable opportunities I\u2019ve received have been the people I\u2019ve had the privilege of meeting.
