{"id":2743,"date":"2025-05-12T13:44:38","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T04:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/?p=2743"},"modified":"2025-05-12T13:44:38","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T04:14:38","slug":"how-flinders-helped-ellie-find-her-perfect-fit-in-paramedicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/2025\/05\/12\/how-flinders-helped-ellie-find-her-perfect-fit-in-paramedicine\/","title":{"rendered":"How Flinders helped Ellie find her perfect fit in paramedicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When Ellie Jefferson-Wetherill first began university, she was enrolled in a <\/span><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/study\/law\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bachelor of Laws<\/span><\/b><\/a><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> \u2013 Legal Practice Entry (Honours), alongside a <\/span><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/study\/business\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bachelor of Business<\/span><\/b><\/a><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Tourism and Event Management. Ambitious and curious, she was exploring multiple fields to find the right fit. But as her first year unfolded, Ellie realised her true calling lay elsewhere\u2014somewhere more hands-on, people-focused, and grounded in purpose.<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That realisation led her to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/study\/health\/paramedicine\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bachelor of Paramedicine<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. A degree that\u2019s become more than just a course of study, but a powerful pathway to a meaningful future.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cStudying Law gave me valuable skills and experiences that I really appreciate, but over time I realised I was looking for a different kind of impact&#8230; something more immediate and people-focused.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2744\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2025\/05\/elly-paramed-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"329\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2025\/05\/elly-paramed-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2025\/05\/elly-paramed-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2025\/05\/elly-paramed-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2025\/05\/elly-paramed-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/mph-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2025\/05\/elly-paramed.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/>Changing direction can feel daunting, but Ellie says Flinders made it feel like a natural step. With a wide range of study options, approachable teaching staff and a culture that encourages exploration, she found the confidence to follow her instincts.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFlinders really supported me through that process. There was never pressure to have everything figured out. Instead, there was room to grow, change direction, and ultimately find what lights you up.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That sense of support extended into her new degree, where Ellie quickly connected with a passionate community of students and educators.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFrom the very first week, I felt welcomed into a strong, inspiring cohort. Everyone &#8211; from classmates to lecturers &#8211; wants you to succeed. It\u2019s a really collaborative, uplifting environment.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now immersed in hands-on learning, Ellie is thriving. With practical skills taught by experienced paramedics, the course has helped her connect theory to real-life impact.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cLearning from people who\u2019ve worked in the field gives you insight and motivation. It makes the learning feel real, and it\u2019s exciting to imagine myself stepping into that role one day.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ellie hopes to one day work with SA Ambulance Service, and perhaps take her skills abroad before returning home to continue her career.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to change your mind. University is about discovering what excites you.
