With Semester 1 nearing its end, we’re putting the spotlight on our Year 1 Paramedicine students. Earlier this year the seven students completed their first week of intensive learning sessions on campus in Darwin.<\/p>\n

During the intensive, students familiarised themselves with first aid kits and medical equipment, and began developing their knowledge of patient assessments and vital sign monitoring. They also learned essential clinical skills including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management and ventilation.<\/p>\n

The week was led by Paramedicine lecturer Sam Yeates and featured a number of guest contributors, including senior Paramedicine student Kaiya and first-year Medicine student Charlie, a qualified paramedic. Both volunteered their time to share their skills and experience with their junior peers.<\/p>\n

“It’s heartening to see students come so far in such a short period of time. They gained confidence by developing their clinical and interpersonal skills as future paramedics,” says Paramedicine lecturer Sam Yeates.<\/p>\n
