We often forget to include activities in our daily routine that increase our mood,” she says.

Hannah says the strategy would be aimed at people with psycho-social disabilities and carried out via telehealth consultations.

“I was also lucky enough in these times to be linked in to telehealth appointments which was really interesting to see. I was also able to sit in on online mentoring sessions with the specialist OTs in each field running a mentoring class every week,” she says.

“I found placement very interesting and slightly overwhelming as you begin to realise how much there is to learn. However I learnt so much from being able to observe four different OTs working with a range of clients.”

Hannah says we can all learn something from the activity scheduling concept during this time with decreased physical contact with family, friends and work colleagues due to COVID-19.

“I thought it was an exercise that is helpful for all of us to be doing at the moment. Many of us aren’t able to engage in occupations that normally increase our mood like going to uni and socialising with everyone, that’s not possible,” she says.

“So it’s important to identify other occupations that do increase our mood that we can do at the moment.

Flinders Occupational Therapy student Hannah Crockett-Naini reflects on the importance of ‘activity scheduling’ to clients and how it can help lift their mood during COVID isolation.
