On Thursday 17th August Southgate Institute for Health, Society and Equity hosted the launch of the ‘Belonging Begins at Home’ research study report which examined the links between housing, social inclusion and health and wellbeing for people from refugee and asylum seeking backgrounds. Associate Professor Anna Ziersch and Dr Clemence Due presented the key findings of their research, circulated the final report, and participated in a panel discussion about the implications of the findings with colleagues from AnglicareSA, the Australian Refugee Association, Shelter SA, the Migrant Health Service, and Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service (STTARS). They also screened two films that participants in the study from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds had produced about their experiences of housing and home, through a collaborative project with Screen Studies at Flinders University with Dr Son Vivienne, Dr Alison Wotherspoon, and Asha Buddhacharya.
