What is the Washing Internship Program?
Flinders University provides an incredible opportunity for students to intern in Washington D.C. with the U.S. Congress. Students can participate in the 8-week WIP or 17-week program, which includes study at George Mason University. Interns work in the offices of U.S. Senators, House members, or congressional committees, gaining hands-on political experience. Interns will conduct research, contribute to office tasks, and complete a research paper, followed by a presentation on their experience upon returning to Flinders University.
Wondering what it’s like to be part of the program? Hear from some of our students and their stories!
“Four Flinders interns were fortunate enough to have tickets to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration—an event that, regardless of your political stance, is historically significant.”

“Standing in front of the building was entrancing. To think of the number of US senators, members of Congress, policymakers, and presidents who have made decisions that would alter the course of history can almost feel overwhelming. Looking down from the Capitol at the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial in the distance and admiring the Roman and Greek inspired architecture is something that can only be experienced while you are here, and it never really leaves your mind”
