Counsellor Matt on reconciliation between non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal Australians

National Reconciliation week runs from the 27th May to the 3rd June.

‘National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.’

Counsellor Matt has started a 5 part series over on the Oasis website, looking at some of the psychological processes involved in reconciliation between non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal Australians.

In the first piece, Matt explores the idea that maybe we’ve not done the necessary groundwork required to arrive at an equal footing at the reconciliation table and outlines a pathway to doing so that an individual can take.

For non-Aboriginal Australians, this is an important piece of work, applying ideas from psychology on how we can look inwards, reconcile some of our inner conflicts, before arriving at a point where we can truly take a seat at the reconciliation table in Australia.
