These are the programs and events that students can participate in to help maximise their own wellbeing and productivity, but also become attentive and skilled at helping others.
This blog post, which is pinned to the top of the Student Health and Wellbeing Blog is updated on a regular basis as programs are developed and launched.
I’ve also included in this list some programs that are run by other groups in the university that have a productivity/ wellbeing focus.

Mindful Yoga – a weekly yoga class run by Counsellor Maureen blending gentle movements, self-compassion and mindful presence – https://oasis.flinders.edu.au/mindful-yoga-class/ (bookings essential) 🧘♀️ – kicking back off on the August 17th

Mindfulness for Academic Success – a 5-session program teaching you to use mindfulness to reduce stress, improve focus, stop procrastinating, communicate better and study more efficiently – https://oasis.flinders.edu.au/mindfulness-for-academic-success-2/ (an online introductory session is also now available on Oasis Online). – kicks back off again in September

Shut Up and Study Sessions – virtual coworking sessions, held in Collaborate where you can get work done, but in the calming and motivating presence of others doing the same thing. Conversation Groups – Conversation groups are fun and informal conversation sessions led by an Oasis Chaplain on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The focus is getting students together for a chat and to check in and talk about whichever topic comes up! Great for those who are feeling a little bit socially isolated. Also a great opportunity to practice your English (if it’s your second language). The groups are for all students. Be Well Plan – a 5 x 2-hour program that teaches you how to develop your own mental health and wellbeing plan, led by counsellors from HCD. To register your interest, contact email@example.com. Studyology – a 5-session group program designed to give you the psychological tools necessary to combat common study problems like procrastination, perfectionism, low motivation and study avoidance. Attention rural and remote health students! – Dr Andrew McLelland is a Senior Lecturer on Mental Health for the Centre for Remote Health. The programs he is involved in and write/facilitate within are:
- The final day (Self-Care) of the Framing Indigenous Health Program (5-day intensive). It’s also part of TRAN and the topic REM8001
- Tailor-made programs for organisations on self-care and wellbeing (or other topics on my workshops list)
- Self-care programs for students, particularly the medical students.

National Sorry Day (July) – National Sorry Day marks the anniversary of the tabling in Federal Parliament of the Bringing Them Home Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families, on 26 May 1997.
University Mental Health Week (May) – bringing together the university community to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing. Mental health promotion activities will run throughout that week.
Mental Health Month (October) – stick close to Oasis Social media (Facebook and Instagram) for activities happening on campus and online during Mental Health Month (October 2021). Includes giveaways and competitions!
