Beat procrastination at your own pace with bite-sized Studyology videos—flexible, practical, and ready when you are! Staff welcome also.
Health, Counselling and Disability Services and Oasis run a lot of wellbeing programs. But we are mindful that it isn’t always easy for students to attend them.
The modern student is balancing study, work, and personal commitments and can’t always commit to the dedicated dates/times when the programs are being run.
This was the case earlier this week when I put the call out to students who had signed up for Studyology – our tackling procrastination program.
Many of those I contacted were still keen to do the program but weren’t available at the suggested times. Studyology (in its original form) is 5 x 75-minute sessions and in a busy week with study and work, that isn’t necessarily easy to allocate.
So, I am going to try a new format and see if that helps make the program more accessible.
What’s New?
Instead of scheduled sessions, I will be breaking the program up into short, focused videos (approx. 10-15 minutes each) and distributing these sequentially over the course of ~ 6 months.
Each video will teach an aspect of the program and include actionable, practical strategies that you can use to start tackling procrastination.
The videos will be housed in a Teams site, that students (and staff) can join and access the videos at any time. If the only time you have to watch the videos is 2am in the morning, they’ll be there!
And being shorter videos, you won’t have to sit through longer, lecture style videos. You can consume the program one bite at a time.
The Teams site will also be used to help build a sense of community (which we do get with the live sessions). Participants will be able to ask questions, share victories or challenges, and chat about the content in the videos.
How Will It Work?
This week, Friday 14th March, I plan on recording and releasing the first video. I then plan on making 1 video per week (on average) until I’ve covered all the content from the program.
As mentioned previously, I will endeavour to ensure that each video includes actionable steps or reflections that you can apply immediately, to gain a better understanding of your procrastination or experiment with ways of changing it.
To join, see the details below.
NOTE: There is a good chance if you are reading this (after the 14th March), some content may already available for you to consume.
Benefits of the New Format (V4)
You can’t always predict whether these alternative formats will work, but I think there are definitely some potential advantages to delivering Studyology this way:
- Easier to fit into busy schedules (watch anytime, anywhere).
- Immediate application of concepts to real-life procrastination challenges.
- Peer support through a collaborative online community.
- No pressure or requirement that you are available at a certain time or place – students progress at their own pace.
- Opportunity to join anytime and catch up easily on missed content.
How to Join
On the 14th March, I will set up the Teams site, record the first video and invite in students who have already expressed interest.
After that date, if you want to join, simply complete this brief form, and I will add you to the Teams site. From there you can review what content is already available and join in the discussion 😊
Closing Remarks
I’m excited about this alternative way of sharing the Studyology program with students.
As we go, I will invite feedback and suggestions to continually improve the experience.
Look forward to working with you.
