Menstrual Matters: Education, Awareness & Empowerment

Learn about heavy menstrual bleeding, its impact, and how to provide better support in this free online event featuring healthcare experts and a lived-experience patient.

Did you know that heavy menstrual bleeding is a significant health issue that affects many people who menstruate? Unfortunately, it’s an area that often receives insufficient attention in medical training, leading to misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and inadequate care. But you can be part of the change!

Join AMSA Global Health – Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and BleedBetter for “Menstrual Matters – Education, Awareness and Empowerment,” a special event for International Day of Heavy Menstrual Bleeding.

What You’ll Learn:

This event will provide crucial information on:

  • What heavy menstrual bleeding is
  • How it impacts individuals who menstruate
  • The challenges and issues surrounding this topic
  • Available treatment and healthcare pathways
  • How you, as future clinicians (or informed individuals), can better support patients with heavy menstrual bleeding.

Expert Speakers and Interactive Panel:

You’ll have the opportunity to learn from a diverse panel of experts, including:

  • A Haematologist
  • Obstetrician & Gynecologists (Consultants and Surgical Specialists in robotic surgery for hysterectomies and fibroid removals)
  • A General Practitioner (GP)
  • A Medical Student
  • A Lived Experience Patient

This interactive panel format will allow you to ask questions and gain firsthand knowledge that you can apply to real clinical cases. Hear from clinicians about how this knowledge translates into patient care.

Why This Matters:

Current education and medical curriculum often lack sufficient focus on this critical area of reproductive and sexual health. This event is a chance to bridge that gap, start important conversations, and learn how to provide better care.

Event Details:

  • Date: 23rd May
  • Time: 5:00 PM (ACST)
  • Location: Zoom
  • Cost: FREE!
  • Open To: All medical and non-medical students, and members of the public

Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your knowledge and contribute to better women’s health outcomes!
