Better U presents….. ‘Wellbeing in Practice’

Better U’s new Wellbeing in Practice series has launched. We ran our first session during Wellbeing Week (video and slides available) and are planning new sessions.

Recap: Launch Event – Session 1: Thriving in All Directions

The inaugural session of the Wellbeing in Practice series, “Thriving in All Directions,” successfully launched during Wellbeing Week at Flinders on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Held at the Oasis Student Wellbeing Centre and also livestreamed, this event brought together three expert speakers who explored key pillars of wellbeing: mental, social, and financial. If you missed it, you can watch the full session here: https://video.flinders.edu.au/events20/25/ThrivingInAllDirections.cfm

Kicking off the session was Stacy White, Financial Counsellor from the Flinders University Student Association (FUSA), who shared valuable insights on Financial Wellbeing in her 15-minute talk. Stacy acknowledged the stress of student finances and provided smart habits, drawing from her recent Better U blog post and more, to help attendees manage money with greater clarity and less stress.

Following Stacy, Elli Kolovos, PhD Candidate (Psychology) and Associate Lecturer in Mental Health and Wellbeing, led an insightful 30-minute session on Prioritising Your Mental Wellbeing. Elli normalized the challenges of focusing on mental health, emphasized that “wellbeing” is unique to each individual, and shared research-backed tips for identifying what truly matters.

The session concluded with Haidee Baker, Psychologist & Counsellor and Co-creator of the Supercommunicators Program, who delved into Social Wellbeing in a 15-minute presentation. Drawing on her extensive experience, Haidee highlighted that social wellbeing extends beyond simple social interaction and offered practical ways to build meaningful connections and engage in more fulfilling conversations.

Attendees, both in person and online, gained valuable knowledge and practical strategies for enhancing their overall wellbeing. Slides from the session.

What is next?

We’re busy in the BetterU Lab (I wish there actually was a lab) cooking up future presentations. When we have our next one organised, we’ll promote here and on the BetterU website.
