Staff perspectives wanted: Inclusive education research at Flinders

Hey staff, this one is for you 🙂 – You’d be supporting an honours project exploring what is needed for people with intellectual disability to attend university.

Flinders has a growing reputation for exploring how higher education can be made more accessible, particularly for students who have traditionally been underrepresented in university settings.

I believe this sits closely alongside our wellbeing mission. When we actively create opportunities for diversity, we build a more interesting and vibrant community. One where hopefully more people can find their place.

A current Honours research project at Flinders is exploring this space, focusing specifically on inclusive higher education for people with intellectual disability.

The study is looking to understand:

  • what helps (facilitators)
  • what gets in the way (barriers)

…when universities attempt to implement more inclusive approaches.

Staff are invited to take part in a 30–60 minute online interview to share their perspectives and experiences. Participation is voluntary, confidential, and contributes to research aimed at improving policy and practice in this area.

If you’ve ever reflected on who university works for — and how we might broaden that — this is a valuable opportunity to contribute to that conversation.
