I think about wellbeing every day, but we’ve packed it into a week for you, because we know you’ve got a lot on your plate. Hope to see you at one of the events.
At Flinders, you might notice that we don’t just have Orientation Week, we also have Connect Week, Success Week, and Wellbeing Week.
That’s because starting uni (and staying on track) isn’t something that happens in one week.
These themed weeks are really extensions of orientation, spreading out the advice, experiences, and opportunities that help you settle in, build skills, and look after yourself across the semester. They arose because Orientation week got so packed that I think we frightened students more than welcomed them (our bad!).
In the rotation of themed weeks, Wellbeing Week is last but not least.
And it is coming up from the 4th to 8th May.
This semester’s focus is on something many students (and staff to be honest) know well: overwhelm.
Between assignments, deadlines, and everything else going on in life and the world, it’s easy to feel like things are piling up. Wellbeing Week is your chance to step back, reset, and pick up a few practical strategies to help you manage it.
Across the week, there are plenty of ways to get involved, whether you want something practical, social, or just a moment to breathe.
You might:
- 🧠 Join a session on managing overwhelm and staying on track (oh yeah, I might be running that 😊)
- 💬 Drop in for 1:1 support with a Wellbeing Advisor
- 🧘 Try meditation, yoga, or mindfulness sessions
- 🎨 Get creative with mindful art or collage
- 🐶 Take a proper study break with Dogs in the Library
- 🌳 Head out on a forest walk or connect at Oasis
- 🥣 Grab some free soup or visit the Community Market
There are also sessions on things like sleep, mental health, focus, and navigating support systems, so you can build habits that actually make uni life feel more manageable. I like the looks of the ‘Light and Mental Health‘ session.
It’s also a great time to remind yourself of the wellbeing supports that are available, ranging from the Good Vibes Experiment to Oasis, Counselling Services, and the BetterU wellbeing hub.
If you’ve been meaning to:
- get on top of things
- take a proper break
- try something that helps you feel a bit more in control
then your moment has arrived.

And I might see you at one of them!
