Did you know Mental Health First Aid started right here in Australia? What began as a local idea has now grown into a program delivered around the world — all based on a simple question: if we learn first aid for physical health, why wouldn’t we learn it for mental health too?
Flinders students can access free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to build practical skills for supporting a friend, classmate or colleague who might be struggling.
You’ll learn how to recognise signs of common mental health problems, respond if someone is in crisis, start a supportive conversation, and help connect them with professional support.
You don’t need to be studying psychology, and you’re definitely not being trained to become a counsellor. The aim is simply to help you feel more confident knowing what to say, what to do, and where to point someone next.
All students are welcome.
Free training, practical skills, and a qualification you can actually use.
A handful of opportunities are left for 2026 – either the Blended Online version with Robyn Dwight or two days face to face with Chris O’Grady.
