{"id":2684,"date":"2020-05-08T15:39:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T06:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/?p=2684"},"modified":"2020-05-08T15:39:23","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T06:09:23","slug":"new-resource-for-victims-of-crime-and-abuse-digital-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/2020\/05\/08\/new-resource-for-victims-of-crime-and-abuse-digital-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"New Resource for Victims of Crime and Abuse &#8211; Digital launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Victim Support Service and Flinders University are pleased to announce the digital launch of a\u00a0new resource for victims of crime and abuse:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/victimsupportservice.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-midtihl-jildjdfdy-y\/\"><strong><em>After Crime and Abuse: Common Reactions to Trauma and Strategies for Coping<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0resource will make it easier for victims of crime and abuse to access information and strategies for coping with trauma,\u00a0to understand\u00a0they are not alone in what they are experiencing and see\u00a0the types of things that have helped others\u00a0re-establish their sense of wellness.<\/p>\n<p>The resource is available online in digital format and as a downloadable or print brochure. It covers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>common reactions to crime<\/li>\n<li>ways to cope after crime<\/li>\n<li>self-medication<\/li>\n<li>how to find support<\/li>\n<li>client stories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The online resource also includes\u00a0links to further supports and information, including resources specific to COVID-19 and coping in uncertain times.<\/p>\n<p>It is based on findings from\u00a0research which began in South Australia in 2011 when VSS approached Flinders University Professors Marinella Marmo and Willem De Lint \u201cto explore ways to access evidence-based knowledge that could help their everyday interaction with crime victims.\u201d (The study was\u00a0recently published in book form as \u201c<em><a href=\"https:\/\/victimsupportservice.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-midtihl-jildjdfdy-j\/\">Narrating injustice survival: self-medication by victims of crime<\/a><\/em>\u201d)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/victimsupportservice.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-midtihl-jildjdfdy-t\/\"><strong>View the digital online resource here<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/victimsupportservice.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-midtihl-jildjdfdy-i\/\">Download the brochure\u00a0in PDF format<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Or request a physical\u00a0copy of the brochure by emailing <strong><a href=\"mailto:helpdesk@victimsa.org\">helpdesk@victimsa.org<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>These are challenging times for us all, particularly so for victims of crime.
