Of interest to Flinders University students who are deaf.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Hello<\/p>\n<p>My name is Jill Duncan, and I am from the School of Education at the University of Newcastle. My colleague Dr Renee Punch, from the School of Health at Southern Cross University, and I are investigating the enablers and barriers to the development of social capital and the design of interventions to facilitate the social capital of adolescents who are deaf.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Punch and I are recruiting 15 young adults who are deaf, who<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have a bilateral moderate to profound hearing loss, and<\/li>\n<li>use spoken language to communicate, and<\/li>\n<li>are aged 18-23 years, and<\/li>\n<li>are attending university in Australia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Social capital is the benefits derived from networks of relationships between people and groups of people. There are many documented benefits of social capital. Social capital has a potential buffering effect against negative outcomes for young people who are deaf or hard of hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in this research will be interviewed via Zoom twice, approximately four to six months apart. The Zoom interviews will be captioned. Participants will be emailed a $75 Mastercard voucher after each interview in acknowledgement and appreciation of their time.<\/p>\n<p>Invitation is included below as a pdf. The invitation includes a Link to SurveyMonkey that will contain the Participant Information Statement and Consent Form.<\/p>\n<p>This research project has been approved by the University\u2019s Human Research Ethics Committee, Approval No. H-2021-0024.
