{"id":5672,"date":"2024-05-16T09:45:17","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T00:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/?p=5672"},"modified":"2024-06-06T14:14:55","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T04:44:55","slug":"unlocking-better-sleep-insights-from-huberman-and-walker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/2024\/05\/16\/unlocking-better-sleep-insights-from-huberman-and-walker\/","title":{"rendered":"Unlocking Better Sleep: Insights from Huberman and Walker"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p>This post contains a PDF that distils key sleep improvement tips from Andrew Huberman and Matt Walker&#8217;s discussions, highlighting simple, cost-free interventions to enhance physical and mental health.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Andrew Huberman and Matt Walker are both scientists and podcasters.<\/p>\n<p>When they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLPNW_gerXa4OoypUEgZI7uouI12WZrxeS\">get together<\/a> they like to talk sleep.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t think you have a spare 15 hours to watch all those conversations, you might get some sleep improving wisdom from recent Huberman Neural Network Newsletters.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve packaged them up as a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2024\/05\/Sleep-advice-2.pdf\">PDF<\/a> for easy access.<\/p>\n<p>I consider sleep (alongside movement and nutrition) as core contributors to physical and mental health (and in turn, academic success).<\/p>\n<p>Now does that mean if you improve your sleep, that you&#8217;ll become a study ninja?<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I haven&#8217;t seen really strong evidence to suggest that is the case. But interventions to improve sleep (e.g. light and dark, temperature, food and meal timing, caffeine intake, routines, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/2022\/07\/12\/top-10-tips-for-better-sleep-from-matt-walker\/\">sleep hygiene<\/a>) are basically free.<\/p>\n<p>And if you are falling short of the recommended 7-9 hours per night, or your sleep quality is poor, experimenting to see if improving your sleep could improve your health and wellbeing seems like a no-brainer.<\/p>\n<p>For me, simple interventions to improve my sleep (early morning light exposure and physical activity, wind-down evening routine) have improved my mood and energy levels.
