{"id":815,"date":"2018-05-22T19:29:35","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T09:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/?p=815"},"modified":"2018-05-25T12:59:09","modified_gmt":"2018-05-25T03:29:09","slug":"reconciliation-week-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/2018\/05\/22\/reconciliation-week-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Reconciliation Week Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ben from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/oasis\/\">OASIS<\/a> let me know about some activities that OASIS is running in conjunction with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flinders.edu.au\/oise\/\">Yunggorendi<\/a> as a part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reconciliation.org.au\/national-reconciliation-week\/\">National Reconciliation week<\/a>. They are outlined below.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On the 28th May at 11.30, OASIS will be holding a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2018\/05\/NATIONAL-RECONCILIATION-WEEK-film-2018-1.pdf\">screening of the film Rabbit Proof Fence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The year is 1931. Three aboriginal girls are separated from their mothers and transported to a distant training school, where they are prepared for assimilation into white society by a racist government policy. We follow Gracie, Daisy, and Molly as they escape and make a tenacious journey homewards. The movie illuminates a shameful chapter of Australian history while conveying our universal need for a true and proper home.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A light lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. No bookings required but contact oasis@flinders.edu.au for more information.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On the 30th May at 10.30am, 12pm and 2pm, Nancy Bates, a Barkindji woman, will be conducting <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/student-health-and-well-being\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2018\/05\/NATIONAL-RECONCILIATION-WEEK-Colebrook-Tour-final-2018.pdf\">guided tours of Colebrook Reconciliation Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Between 1943 and 1972 some 350 Aboriginal children lived here at Colebrook House, taken and isolated from their families. There are now two sculptures on site, the &#8221;Fountain of Tears&#8217; and the &#8216;Grieving Mother&#8217; by well-known South Australian artist Silvio Apponyi.
