To all our new international students joining us either offshore or onshore this semester, I wish you all a very warm welcome to Flinders University!
And to all our current offshore and onshore international students, welcome back after what was a unique year. Hopefully a restful break was enjoyed by all of you!
This intake will see some of you joining us here on our beautiful campus for largely face-to-face teaching (seminars, tutorials, practical and laboratory work) in a COVID-19 safe environment, with larger lectures to be delivered online.
However, many of you are unable to join us due to the ongoing Australian border closure, and special arrangements are in place for you and will remain so for as long as needed.
All of us here at Flinders hope to be able to welcome you to Campus as soon as the border restrictions are eased, this is a day we all very much look forward to and one that we hope takes place this year!
Flinders is committed to supporting your success and realising your ambitions. That’s why we have a range of student services across the University, designed to help you through every step of your student life, and to prepare you well for your future career. And these services are of course available regardless of whether you are studying online from your home country or are able to attend campus.
A good starting point in understanding all the University services available to you is the International Student Services (ISS) team. ISS can assist you with settling you in and navigating student life offering a range of programs and referral services to support your academic and social life – both the online and on campus offerings. ISS can also assist with information on visa issues, work rights, advice on University procedures and can provide you with support on general issues.
Where is ISS and how do I contact ISS?
Location: Level 1, Professional Services Building
Telephone: 8201 2717
Email: iss@flinders.edu.au
Web: students.flinders.edu.au/student-services/iss
Lastly, I am very proud of how we as a University and a community have responded to the global challenges we have been faced with to date. So please rest assured you have joined a safe and caring community as your home away from home.
To those of you offshore, Flinders is a place you can look forward to seeing one day soon, in the meantime connect with your fellow students in readiness for that day, it can help make that transition to campus much more enjoyable when you arrive having the familiarity of a friendly face who may also be sharing the same journey.
Thank you for choosing Flinders, I wish you all the best with your studies in 2021!
Best wishes,
Sebastian Raneskold
Vice-President and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International)
