Flinders Student Recognition by Her Excellency The Honourable Frances Adamson AC at Government House

Feel Good Wednesday – Student Story by Rakshya Risa

I had the privilege of receiving an invitation to The Government House by The Governor of South Australia for the Thank You Reception, in recognition of my support for women in recovering and healing from the impact of Domestic and Family Violence in South Australia. I was honoured by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC with a Certificate of Appreciation. This invitation stands as a significant milestone and acknowledgment of my efforts in this critical area. The reception, which took place on March 7, 2024, was a truly uplifting experience. I feel a profound sense of happiness and pride as I reflect on how far I have come and the valuable contribution I have been able to make in the lives of victim-survivors of Domestic and Family Violence in South Australia.

For over one and a half years, I have dedicated my time as a volunteer in Zahra Foundation (a South Australian-based non-governmental organization supporting women and non-binary individuals affected by domestic and family violence), supporting victim-survivors of domestic and family violence in South Australia. This journey has led me to my current role as a program facilitator at Zahra Foundation, where I now facilitate training for women and non-binary individuals impacted by domestic and family violence. My role involves helping them develop foundational skills and navigate pathways to education, training, and employment opportunities, empowering them to rebuild their futures. My stories of engagement in community service, particularly in supporting victim-survivors of domestic violence in South Australia, have contributed significantly to rebuilding lives. Through my volunteering efforts and now as a program facilitator, I continue to witness the resilience and strength of these individuals as they recover and thrive.
