Expansion of Commonwealth Prac Payments

More Flinders allied health students are set to benefit after the Australian Government announced it will expand the Commonwealth Prac Payment (short for practical placement payments) to an additional 10 key frontline health professions.

The change means more students will be able to receive financial support while they complete mandatory unpaid placements, helping ease cost-of-living pressures.

From 1 July 2027, the scheme will expand to include eligible students studying clinical psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, paramedicine, radiography, pharmacy, rehabilitation therapies and audiology.

Teaching, nursing, midwifery and social work programs are already included under the scheme.

Eligible students can receive up to $338.60 per week while completing mandatory unpaid placements. The maximum number of weeks students are eligible to receive this payment varies based on the course they are studying, and these caps are set by the federal government.
