It was great to see several staff and alumni featured in the Queen\u2019s Birthday honours list on the weekend.<\/p>\n
Professor Doug Henderson from the Department of Histopathology in the School of Medicine was recognised with an AO for his long and distinguished contribution as an academic and clinician at Flinders and FMC, while Flinders PhD graduate Dr Lynnette Roberts received an AO for her high-level work in promotion and education of cardio-vascular health.<\/p>\n
Professor Karen Simmer at the University of Western Australia, who did a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education at Flinders, received an AO for her work in the area of neonatal medicine and medical education.<\/p>\n
Ms Margaret Springgay, a Masters graduate in health services management, received an AM for her work in mental health services, and Ms Denise-Marie Schumann, a BA Honours graduate, received an OAM for her community work in heritage preservation.<\/p>\n
A Public Service Medal went to Mr Philip Fagan Schmidt for his work in the area of social housing and an Ambulance Service Medal was awarded to Mr Terry Whales \u2013 both did postgraduate courses at Flinders.<\/p>\n
Former staff member Professor Alan Cripps, now a Pro Vice-Chancellor at Griffith University, received an AO for his service to tertiary administration and to immunology, and another former Flinders researcher, Ms Monica Oliphant, was awarded an Order of Australia for her service to the renewable energy sector.<\/p>\n
The recipients cover an impressive spread of disciplines. As well as acknowledging the extraordinary record of service by the individuals concerned, the awards are a reminder of the varied and far-reaching influence of the University in the wider community.
