{"id":110,"date":"2020-09-07T15:39:34","date_gmt":"2020-09-07T06:09:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/vice-chancellor\/?p=110"},"modified":"2020-09-07T15:41:15","modified_gmt":"2020-09-07T06:11:15","slug":"new-railway-station-takes-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.flinders.edu.au\/vice-chancellor\/2020\/09\/07\/new-railway-station-takes-shape\/","title":{"rendered":"From the Vice-Chancellor: New railway station takes shape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I visited the new Flinders Railway Station, as part of the Government\u2019s $141 million Flinders Link Project, to see the newly installed station canopy with the Hon Corey Wingard MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.<\/p>\n<p>The installation of the canopy is an exciting milestone that brings us another step closer to having the rail line operational by the end of the year and another step closer to bringing our vision for the Flinders Village to life.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this being a very disrupted year, it is great to see this important project remain on track to connect Flinders University to the CBD and lay the infrastructure foundation for the Flinders Village, which is expected to deliver $1.1 billion in economic value to the state.<\/p>\n<p>The canopy is around 150 metres long at the Flinders Railway Station located alongside Flinders Medical Centre and will provide shelter for commuters.<\/p>\n<p>Flinders University has already begun work on a pop-up plaza at the station to provide a safe and active space for passengers for when the rail is operational.
