Professor Fran Baum led a team making a successful application to the Rockefeller Foundation to hold a sponsored meeting to develop a corporate health impact assessment. This meeting is now happening in Bellagio where 19 researchers and civil society corporate representatives are working intensively over three days to develop and refine a framework, which would for the first time measure and assess the impact of corporate activity on health. The framework includes examining the global regulatory environment, the workforce issues, the business practices of corporations and the health  impact of the products.

The meeting is leading to a new research agenda and the development of an international research network that will be led by the Southgate Institute and will be preparing funding applications over the coming months. Professor Fran Baum and Dr Matt Fisher are attending the meeting from Flinders University. Other Universities represented at the meeting are the City University of New York, University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape, University of Sao Paulo, University of Ottawa and Australian National University.
