A/Prof David Hunter speaks at Northern Ireland Ethics Forum

David Hunter A/Prof David Hunter recently spoke at the Northern Ireland Forum for Ethics in Medicine and Healthcare. His talk was titled “Freedom as Non-Domination: Political Threats to Informed Consent and Patient Autonomy”. The paper argues that we have neglected an important challenge to informed consent, that of domination. Dr Hunter states that ‘domination is commonplace in medical practice and that this has profound implications for the justificatory work that informed consent can do’. A/Prof David Hunter also recently published a paper on the UK looking at some ethical issues faced by a practice that has developed for the recruitment of research participants there, called pre-recruitment. For the full blog view here.
