60th Anniversary Symposium and Workshops for The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation

Professor Malcolm Battersby was invited as a keynote speaker and workshop presenter to the 60th Anniversary Symposium and Workshops for The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation held in Hong Kong in late March 2019.

The theme was “New Perspectives on Holistic Rehabilitation and Social Inclusion towards 2030”. Malcolm presented the MB LEE Memorial Lecture on Person-Centred Care beyond Self-Management. He also conducted a half day workshop on “The Application of Low Intensity Coaching in Health Care and Social Service” attended by 60 professionals in the health care and social service sectors. Both the presentation and the workshop were very well received.

Malcolm renewed our research unit’s long term 10-year collaboration with Peter Poon, Phyllis Chau Wai-ping and Choi-fong Siu from The Hong Kong Society of Rehabilitation.

While in Hong Kong Malcolm also met with staff from the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and was able to personally present certificates to Candy Powell and Cecelia Leung, who had completed Flinders Low Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Supervisor Training on behalf of Paula Redpath and Fiona Glover, who had travelled to Hong Kong in July 2018 to deliver training and support the four supervisors to develop skills in competency-based supervision. The visit will lead to ongoing joint training opportunities in low intensity health coaching and supervision.
