Semester 2 sees the continuation of online delivery of teaching, with some return to face to face sessions. In addition, the new semester brings increased numbers of students commencing their studies at Flinders from offshore or interstate locations.
In response to these changes, the Student Learning Support Service will be running one-hour Learning Lounge workshops, in addition to the usual one-on-one support offered through the online and on-campus Learning Lounge. Also, the English Language Support Program will deliver classes with flexible on-campus and online options; offshore and interstate students are welcome to enrol.
Learning Lounge workshops will run from Week 3 to Week 10 and are open to all enrolled students. Workshops will be held in the Commons, Level 2 Central Library, at Sturt South S409 and online via Collaborate, with particular sessions offered for offshore and interstate students. No appointment is necessary, and students can just drop-in.
Importantly, the sessions are centred on students’ assignments, rather than involving content delivery. However, they are facilitated by a Learning advisor from the Student Learning Support Service and each session focuses on a key academic literacy which corresponds to assessment cycles during the semester. For example, in week 3, workshops cover topics such as studying online, getting started and understanding assignment criteria.
The workshops allow for students to enhance their learning with an advisor while also benefitting from the peer support of fellow students.
The English Language Support Program supports students from non-English speaking backgrounds to enhance various aspects of their English communication, including grammar, pronunciation, listening and discussions skills, reading academic texts, and academic writing. The program runs for 7 consecutive weeks commencing from Week 2; enrolments are currently open.
