First meeting

The first meeting of the newly formed Digital Heritage research group was held on 25th March, 2013.  We had a great mix of internal Flinders people from both ‘sides of the lake’ as well as members of the community and representatives from the Adelaide cultural sector. Here’s a brief summary of what happened:

Helen Stuckey, ex-curator of games at ACMI, gave an impressive sketch of her PhD research, on the “History of the Australian Games Industry”.    (There’s a link to her proposal document here.)

Introductions followed, as we heard from those in attendance what their connection was, and interest is, in Digital Heritage.

Craig Harrington then talked us through some of the issues that are informing his early PhD research, towards a source code converter tool.  Like Helen, Craig is a part of the Play It Again game history and preservation project, which Flinders is the administering institution of.

Finally, we discussed what the group’s goals were and how we might proceed.  It was suggested that we might have some sessions in the city, to enable others who are interested to attend.  This seems like a great idea, perhaps alternating with on-campus events.  We’ll use this blog to communicate about our meetings, past and upcoming, as well as promote issues of interest to digital heritage researchers and practitioners.  Join our listserv here if you want to stay informed.

cheers, Melanie
