Closure of Flinders International Study Centre

Flinders International Study Centre

As you will be aware, the COVID-19 situation has resulted in the Australian border’s closure, impacting international students’ ability to arrive and study in Australia.

There has been a decline in student numbers at Flinders International Study Centre (FISC), continuing into 2021 due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.

With low enrolments in 2021, it means there is less opportunity for students to engage in a rich, collaborative environment, potentially lessening their positive student experience. Therefore, Flinders University and Study Group have mutually agreed that it is in the students’ best interest to cease delivering its programs in June 2021.

We appreciate that this news could be unsettling to our current cohort of international students studying Foundation, Diploma and Pre-Masters programs at Flinders International Study Centre located at Flinders University, Adelaide.

Agents of current students: FISC will remain open until the end of June 2021, which will allow existing students to complete the course they are currently studying. Upon completion, students will be able to progress into their chosen Flinders University program. FISC will work with each student to develop an individual plan and will support students during this transition.

What does this mean for my student(s) with a current offer for a 2021 intake?

For agents with future students confirmed and paid for commencement in 2021, FISC staff will work with each student to develop an individual plan to transfer to another provider or transition to Flinders University for their course commencing in 2021. Importantly, students also have Flinders’ support, so we encourage students to reach out to our admissions team here if needed.

It is essential to understand that pathways into Flinders programs are still available through other providers, including students’ ability to package with Flinders courses.

This situation now presents an opportunity for the University to re-imagine our student pathways provision in readiness for the recovery from the pandemic, with a vision to creating an ecosystem to meet individual student needs. Flinders will be providing an update on our pathway providers soon.
