Sidney Myer Rural Lecture Series: Rural Education . . Shaping Leaders for the Future
 
Professor Margaret Alston, OAM, Director of GLASS and Head of Department of Social Work, Monash University will present the first lecture in a series of four entitled: “Rural Education . . . Shaping Leaders for the Future”.

Many issues and challenges are facing rural communities today. Margaret will draw upon her extensive research, and firsthand knowledge of rural life, to set out what needs to be done to ensure that education in rural Australia and elsewhere is shaping leaders for the future.

Professor Alston is current Chair of the Australian Heads of Schools of Social Work (ACHSSW), and has served as an NGO representative in the Australian delegation to the UN Commission for the Status of Women. She has served on numerous Federal and State boards and committees, and as a gender expert to the UN’s FAO and Habitat bodies.
