Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium

Flinders University sponsors the Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium held in 2012 over the month of April at “The Cedars”, the former home of one of Australia’s best known and loved painters, Sir Hans Heysen.  The Symposium, an exciting new arts and tourism initiative, brought together internationally acclaimed sculptors to create world class stone sculptures for permanent placement in public sites in the Adelaide Hills.

During the first week of this activity, Flinders hosted an Adelaide Hills Alumni reception which provided the opportunity for our alumni and friends resident in the Hills to experience a private tour of the home of Hans Heysen, and also meet and chat with the sculptors.  The sculptors participating in the symposium, Silvio Apponyi – Australia,  Miguel  Isla-Sanz – Spain, Craig Medson – Australia, Yoshin Ogata – Japan, Jaya Schuerch – USA/Switzerland, Hwang Seung-Woo – Korea, Kemal Tufan – Turkey, and Luke Zwolsman – Australia.  It was a wonderful evening which, from comments on the night and emails, since was very much appreciated and enjoyed by all.  See photos of the event here.

The plan is that following this event, two more biennial events will be held, the aim being that a trail of public art will be created throughout the Adelaide Hills.  Flinders University intends to be a continuing supporter of this very special Adelaide Hills community project.
