The South Australian Universities Alumni Europe and the South Australia Club held a joint Wine Tasting on 10 May 2012 in the St Paul’s Roof Pavilion at the Royal Festival Hall. The Hon Jay Weatherill MP in London on his first official visit as Premier seeking investment and business opportunities for South Australia attended. Honorary Australian, wine writer and presenter Matthew Jukes had put together a great line-up of wines (Grossett, Jim Barry, Penley, Petaluma) from the Clare Valley and Coonawarra, which he discussed, and all present tasted.

The previous day at a reception which alumni attended, Premier Weatherill announced a new program of international engagement (advised by former Austrade Chief Economist Tim Harcourt) to tap into the large South Australian diaspora in the UK and Europe for the benefit of the State. Many South Australians have settled in Europe and are unlikely to return home, and the State Government is seeking to engage with this group, especially the Alumni, and others willing to give something back to South Australia.
