Allen Frances, MD
Former Chair of the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-IV Task Force
and of the Department of Psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine,
Durham, North Carolina. Allen is currently Professor Emeritus at Duke
University. Worried by the direction of the draft DSM-5, Allen has become
an outspoken critic and prolific blogger, with articles in Psychology Today,
Psychiatric Times, the Huffington Post, and the New York Times. Key among his
concerns have been proposed new diagnoses such as psychosis risk syndrome,
and the broadening of diagnostic criteria such as childhood bipolar disorder.
