Tour Tonsley

SNoonan_Hassell_Tonsley_050215_023Alumni are invited to join a tour of Flinders University’s flagship facility at Tonsley, located in the South Australian Government’s new collaborative and high-value industry, education and residential precinct.

In March 2015, Flinders at Tonsley was officially opened by the Minister for Science and Innovation, Ian Macfarlane. With over 150 staff and 2,000 students from our School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics housed at Tonsley, along with many of our business outreach programs including the New Venture Institute, Tonsley is a place where our students interact with business, where business interacts with our researchers in the areas of engineering, medical devices and nanoscale technologies, to make the new products and processes of the 21st century.

Highlights of the visit would include a site tour of Flinders University’s new 16,000 square metre building as well as the 2,000 square metre ‘pod’ which sits within the broader Tonsley complex and houses heavy engineering equipment used for teaching and research, as well as a marine tank, and a large hexapod robot (mechanical vehicle that walks on six legs). You would also have an opportunity to hear directly from some of the University’s senior researchers, and see our students and staff at work in this world-class facility.

If you are interested in joining an alumni tour of the Tonsley facility, please contact Kim Pryor at (08) 8201 7969 or via email at kim.pryor@flinders.edu.au.
