Head and Neck Cancer is the 7th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. It involves the lip, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, and salivary glands with resultant deterioration in swallowing, speech, disfigurement and lymphoedema. The Flinders Head and Neck Cancer Research Group is a multi-disciplinary team led by A/Prof Eng Ooi (ENT surgeon). It comprises of Charmaine Woods (ENT Scientist), research higher degree students Nuwan Dharmawardana (PhD surgeon scientist) and Mistyka Schar (Master of Science), and Tracey Nicholls (ENT Nurse practitioner), other surgeons and oncologists. There is close collaboration with academics from Flinders (Drs Hussey and Yazbeck, A/Prof Omari, Prof Piller), and with national and international research groups.
