FHMRI Consumer Engagement Working Group – Expressions of Interest for membership

Closing date: October 9, 2020

Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute is a multi-disciplinary research institute with a broad focus on health and medical research.  FHMRI’s mission is to deliver a research environment at Flinders University that delivers innovative, high-value research in areas of priority to the South Australian community. To support this, FHMRI aims to develop a robust and sustainable consumer and community engagement program.

Our first step is the establishment of a Consumer Advisory Board for the Institute and we will be convening a working group to undertake this task.

Purpose and objectives of the Consumer Advisory Board

  • To ensure the consumer voice impacts all steps in the research to translation lifecycle
  • To support the development of a thriving research culture that actively engages with health consumers and the broader community, through fostering consumer – researcher partnerships across the researcher career stages, from HDR students to Professors.

Role of the working group

The role of the time-limited working group is to undertake the necessary planning and development associated with establishing the FHMRI Consumer Advisory Board.

The working group will meet 3-4 times over a 6-8 week period to provide advice around developing the following:

  • A business case to fund the establishment of the Advisory Board.
  • The terms of reference for the Advisory Board.
  • The structure and membership of the Advisory Board, including role descriptions and selection criteria.
  • The governance of the Advisory Board.
  • Selection criteria and application forms for the Advisory Board.
  • Payment structure for consumer and community members of the Board.

In addition to inviting expressions of interest for membership of the FHMRI Consumer Engagement Working Group, we also invite expressions of interest for the position of consumer co-chair for the working group.

Meetings will be held online to facilitate membership from outside of the Bedford Park campus.
