Dr. Amal Osman Wins Top Prize at Surgical Sleep Society World Congress

Last month several members of the FHMRI Sleep Health team joined leading global experts to present at the International Surgical Sleep Society World Congress.

FHRMI Sleep Health Fellow Dr Amal Osman took home the prize for the best oral presentation at the Congress for presentation titled “A Novel Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation Approach Yields Major Improvements in Airflow in People with Obstructive Sleep Apnea During Propofol Sedation”.

This cutting-edge Flinders-led collaborative project between FHMRI Sleep Health researchers, and Flinders Private/SALHN clinician researchers aims to develop a new, minimally invasive, electrical stimulation approach (similar to a cardiac pacemaker but for the airway) to treat sleep apneoa and is a great example of the groundbreaking clinical research taking place in the Flinders precinct.
