HDR Student Alvin Lee Presents at AASLD Liver Meeting 2024

Alvin Lee, a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) student at Flinders University, recently attended the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Liver Meeting in San Diego, USA (15–19 November 2024). Recognised as one of the world’s premier hepatology conferences, the event provided an invaluable opportunity for Alvin to share his research and engage with global experts.

Alvin presented a poster titled Compensated Advanced Chronic Liver Disease Management in Primary Care: Good Quality With the Right Model, which explored a primary-care led approach to managing compensated liver cirrhosis. His research focuses on a model where Hepatology Nurse Consultants provide annual reviews, strengthening the link between primary and tertiary care. The findings were well-received, emphasising the potential for innovative care pathways to improve patient outcomes.

In addition to presenting, Alvin took full advantage of the learning and networking opportunities at the conference, connecting with leading hepatology researchers and clinicians. He expressed gratitude for the support of his supervisory team—Prof Alan Wigg, A/Prof Jeyamani Ramachandran, and A/Prof Kate Muller—and appreciated the chance to contribute to global discussions on liver disease management.

He looks forward to applying these insights to his ongoing research at Flinders, furthering advancements in patient-centred liver disease care.
