Almost half of all Australians aged 16 to 85 years — 7.3 million people — will experience mental illness at some point in their life.

This alarming statistic demonstrates the prevalence of mental illness and the need for adequate information and support. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public mental health crisis has been exacerbated.

With acceptable resources, tools and evidence-based information, we can hope to safeguard not only Australians, but citizens the world over from mental illness, and provide prevention and recovery strategies so that all may have the chance to lead healthy, purposeful, flourishing and happy lives with sufficient mental health, wellbeing, and resilience.

In October 2020, two major international events will occur: World Mental Health Week and International Open Access Week. This year’s Mental Health Week theme is ‘Mental Health for All’, and Open Access Week’s theme is ‘Open with Purpose: Taking Action to Build Structural Equity and Inclusion’.

Aligning these two themes, we bring together the Órama Institute for Mental Health and Wellbeing and the Flinders University Library for a special BRAVE livestream event.

Join Professor Mike Kyrios and panellists, Joep Van Agteren, and Liz Hall, as they discuss the science of mental health, wellbeing and resilience building, and the importance of access to accurate, research and evidence-based, trusted information.
