Aiming to boost Baudin scholarships

Nine Flinders students will kick off their international careers as recipients of the French Embassy’s prestigious 2019 Nicolas Baudin Internship Student Mobility Program, by claiming all the scholarships offered by Naval Group and Thales.

Industry partners will once again provide internships for Flinders students for between three and six months in 2020, in collaboration with world-class higher education partners.

Flinders hosted a Higher Education, Research & Industry Workshop at Tonsley on Wednesday 4 December, which investigated other existing opportunities to build on the sustained success of the Baudin scholarships.

Premier Steven Marshall MP, Ambassador of France Christophe Penot and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) Professor Robert Saint opened the workshop panel sessions which focused on industry and government collaboration to offer more exciting opportunities.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Robert Saint says the Baudin Internship Mobility Program enables Flinders students to undertake industrial-focused internships in France, supported by the French Embassy, industrial partners and Flinders.

“Flinders University has been the leading recipient of Nicolas Baudin internships. Nine of our students received the grants this year, enjoying unparalleled opportunities to work with world-leading engineers and technicians.”

“Receiving one-third of this year’s internships highlights our focus on our French relationships and importantly, the quality and calibre of our students. The opportunities provided by these internships not only build valuable links, but are a stimulus for further opportunities.”

Flinders is also welcoming the first six students from partners ESNTA Bretagne and Central Nantes to Adelaide in February next year for the new Nicolas Baudin Internships in Australia initiative.

Panel topics at the workshops included Baudin internship student experiences, university & industry relationships, participation of social sciences and humanities, and gender balance.
