Inspire highlights our aged care research

Flinders University research into improving care at the end of life has been featured in the latest edition of Research Australia’s online publication, Inspire.

Professor Jennifer Tieman and Dr Priyanka Vandersman from the End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC) project had “Digital approaches to improving care at the end of life” published.

Flinders University’s Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death and Dying has led the development of the ELDAC dashboard – an integrated digital solution that aims to normalise basic data collection processes relevant to end of life care.

The dashboard is one of a set of projects being undertaken by Flinders University within the ELDAC project, with hopes to embed a care approach using data variables that are already available in many IT systems.

The July 2021 publication is the 20th edition of Inspire, and focuses on collaboration in health and medical research from national and international researchers.

The International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing’s (ICPOCT) Dr Brooke Spaeth also had work featured in the latest edition. “Point-of-care testing networks expand access to pathology testing” discusses how rural and remote patients are now receiving their pathology results quicker thanks to work undertaken within the International Centre for Point-of-care Testing (ICPOCT).

Flinders University’s ICPOCT is a translational research centre providing equitable access to timely, state-of-the-art pathology testing in over 300 rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care facilities around Australia. The centre works to increase access and availability of testing to improve patient outcomes and enhance patient safety.
