New year, new campus updates

As we welcome the commencement of 2022 on campus, several works are being undertaken before semester 1 begins, including window cleaning and tree works across campus.

Window cleaning across main campus and Tonsley

A contractor is scheduled to commence window cleaning in various buildings across Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley from Friday 4 February (weather permitting):

  • Sports Centre, external
  • Student Centre, external
  • Yunggorendi Mande
  • Registry Building and annexe
  • Professional Services Building
  • The Terrace
  • Union Building
  • Student Hub and Plaza
  • Library and Central Law
  • Matthew Flinders Theatre
  • Drama Centre
  • Oasis
  • Law and Commerce
  • Education, internal and external
  • Engineering – Sir Eric Neal building
  • McHughs
  • Biological Discovery Centre
  • Biological Sciences
  • Sturt Library
  • Optometry and Vision
  • Tonsley Building

This cleaning will help prepare our campuses for the start of the teaching year and has been scheduled during a time when the weather is likely to be favourable.

Please be aware that annual window cleaning is generally centralised around the main campus buildings. After cleaning the main areas is completed, an inspection of additional buildings will be undertaken, with recommendations put forward for further window cleaning if required.

If you have operable windows, please keep them closed when window cleaners are on-site. Please also follow any temporary pedestrian diversions in place around and below buildings during cleaning. For the Tonsley building, contractors need to abseil down the side of buildings to access windows. Please advise Luke Lilburn if you think this may impact any meetings you have scheduled.

We anticipate that works will be completed by 28 February.

Ongoing works in CSE

Works are continuing in the College of Science and Engineering, ranging from refurbishing labs and HDR spaces, to opening the Biodiversity building and major works to enhance the College front.

Please remain aware of increased activity in and around CSE between now and April. At times, there may be intermittent disruption to pedestrian and/or car park access, and some noise or minor vibration associated with these works. Please follow signage in place and be aware that staff are not permitted to enter or move through closed work sites at any time.

Regular progress updates are being provided to the College and people who may be affected by these works.

SA Power Networks repairs in car park 14

SA Power Networks is carrying out vital repairs to a 66kV oil-filled cable, which has an access pit in car park 14 at the Sturt campus. As this work will require ongoing access to the access pit on working days, approximately 12 parking bays will be unavailable from 7pm Tuesday 1 February. We anticipate this work will be completed by the weekend of 12/13 February.

Please be aware of a minor traffic restriction as you transition from the lower side of car park 14 to the upper section. Due to the location of the service pit, a truck will be placed in this location to facilitate access.

Tree works on campus

Tree works involving pruning and removal of trees, as deemed necessary by our arborist, are scheduled across South Ridge and Sturt for Saturday 5 February.

Please be aware that this will affect locations around the College of Science and Engineering, and one space adjacent to the ASMS at Sturt.

We expect contractors will be on site from 8am on 5 February, with works likely to take most of the day. If you are walking through or around these areas at this time, please take care and follow any pedestrian signage or directions.
