Sports stars – from Bedford Park to Birmingham

Congratulations and good luck to several Flinders University students and graduates who are representing Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Representing Australia in netball, cycling, basketball, athletics and cricket, Flinders grads and students will be in action across 11 days of competition.

Flinders’ representatives will join the 435 Australian athletes heading to Birmingham to compete in the Games, marking Australia’s second largest contingent to ever compete at a Commonwealth Games.

Day one will see Tahlia McGrath and her Australian Women’s Cricket teammates go up against India in the debut match of women’s cricket at a Commonwealth Games.

Sarah Klau and the Diamonds will take to the court on day two against Scotland during the first round of the netball competition, while cyclists Sophie Edwards and Chloe Moran will compete on the track in their first Commonwealth Games.

Day five will see two Flinders’ representatives in action, with Ella Sabljak on the basketball court and Izzi Batt-Doyle competing in the 10,000m.

The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony will be shown live on Channel 7 on Thursday 28 July.
