Celebrating SA’s ongoing German ties

Coinciding with Adelaide German Week, Flinders University staff last week joined other universities, industry and government stakeholders for Business, Science and Innovation Day – celebrating bilateral research and innovation endeavours between South Australia and Germany.

Held at the University of Adelaide’s National Wine Centre and supported by Flinders University and DAAD Australia (The German Academic Exchange Service), the program showcased existing science and science-business collaborations, as well as helping to facilitate future opportunities, collaborations and growth.

As part of an academic showcase, Professor Krasimir Vasilev from the College of Medicine and Public Health presented on ‘Nanoengineered Biomaterials for Medicine and Beyond’, while Dr Ilka Wallis and Professor Okke Batelaan from Flinders’ National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training presented on water resources research conducted with their German partners.

Flinders also invited two of its Tonsley-based industry partners to be part of the Government and Industry panel. Samantha Murray, VP & Managing Director, ANZ Siemens Digital Industries Software, and Karen Roberts, VP, Global Customer Enhancement, Carl Zeiss Vision International, both presented insightful discussions on doing business and developing collaborations internationally, in particular between Australia and Germany.
